DON’T BREATHE de Fede Alvarez

The Plot: Three young thieves decide to break into the house of a blind man to steal a possible fortune he has hidden in the house. But the man, although blind, isn’t helpless as they soon find out.

The Cast: As the blind man, Stephen Lang (the bad guy from AVATAR) creates a strong character, the kind we love to hate but in this case he isn’t exactly a bad guy, he is just defending himself, right? As the female thieve, Jane Levy knows how to put a good fight and has us on her side.

The Movie: A simple idea and a small group of actors, are sometimes the best ingredients for a good horror thriller. That’s the case here, director Fede Alvarez glues us to our chairs with the right amount of suspense and atmosphere. The action takes a little while to begin, but when it does it’s nonstop. Alvarez takes full advantage of the fact that the “villain” is blind and also reveals a dark sense of humor, that has its climax on the artificial insemination scene of which I refuse to say more. Contrasting with his previous movie, the EVIL DEAD remake, this isn’t a gory one and fans of blood and guts will be disappointed, but if you like intense dark horror thrillers, this one is for you!

My Rate: 7 (from 1 to 10)
